Oak Island was founded in 1997 by John Hawkins III. The company was founded on the principles of utilizing desire and passion to entertain people by creating walkthrough attractions. John’s first theming experience was constructing a Haunted House at the age of twelve in the basement of his own home. Each year, the attraction’s size and quality grew. John spent countless hours designing, retooling and adding details that added to the realism of his events. It was here that the foundations were laid for some of the best known and most impactful Haunted Attractions today.
The growth continued to be exponential for John, and it became time to pursue the dream of owning his own company. In 1997, Oak Island was born, receiving its name from a favorite story from John's childhood, a tale about pirates and lost treasure on Oak Island in Nova Scotia. In order to continue to provide the best craftsmanship and leadership, John set out to recruit individuals that would share his passion and determination. "You cannot teach passion to someone," explains John, "but a passionate person can learn to become talented." Shortly thereafter many of the Oak Island team’s key personnel were added- these team members continue to spearhead the company today!
Guided by an unwavering desire to develop innovative entertainment products and services, the Oak Island team developed several Haunted Attractions for local promoters in Oak Island’s home city, Tampa, Florida in the late nineties. Through dedication, attention to detail, and superior customer service, Oak Island attracted notice of major theme parks and the entertainment industry. The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, Oak Island stands for the pinnacle of quality in the Haunted Attraction industry, continues to offer Halloween and theming professionals unique products, and offers a vast array of themed event services.
